The Culling
The Culling is a Netflix Original Series set to release in Septovember. It takes place in a dystopian world of selective breeding and depopulation.
The Goal
To design a title sequence that would give the viewer a little taste of the world that they are about to experience.
Process
The Culling - Synopsis
In order to make a title sequence, I have to have a movie first. I could do titles based off of a movie that’s released, but where’s the fun in that?
When designing title sequences, I don’t have a set method for conceptualizing the visuals. But lately I have noticed that I see the sequence in my head when listening to a song or audio track. For The Culling, I listened to “Spring II by Vivaldi”.
This is the original storyboard that I sketched. Most of the shots followed these initial compositions. However, as I was piecing everything together I realized that it needed more context for clarity and to visually flow better.
